After two years of development, Lawyer Plugin (www.lawyerplugin.com) launched their first public version of what promises to be an essential plugin for any lawyer running a WordPress website.
Lawyer Plugin is the first plugin of its kind: it gives law firms access to hundreds of local resources which are automatically added, updated, and synced with Lawyer Plugin’s central servers every 24 hours.
The registration takes care of all settings automatically. For example, a bankruptcy lawyer in Tampa, Florida, creates his profile with his law firm’s name, address, city, state, and practice area(s). The plugin automatically pulls bankruptcy- and Florida-related resources onto the resource page which is created by the plugin. With that, the firm becomes part of the peer-to-peer legal directory which is then displayed on the websites of every plugin user.
When creating the plugin, the peer-to-peer directory presented a major challenge. A law firm does not want to display competing law firms on their website. To solve this problem, Lawyer Plugin has been designed to filter competitors and only displays non-competing listings on each user’s website.
Here is how the filter works:
Smith & Smith bankruptcy lawyers in Tampa, Florida, install Lawyer Plugin.
Lisa Johnson & Associates, elder law attorneys in Asheville, North Carolina, also installs Lawyer Plugin.
Bradley Baker & James bankruptcy lawyers in Tampa Florida installs Lawyer Plugin.
Foz & Oz Attorneys at Law, bankruptcy lawyers in Los Angeles, California, installs Lawyer Plugin, too.
On the Smith & Smith resources page, Lawyer Plugin will display the listing for Lisa Johnson & Associates, because that firm does not compete in Smith & Smith’s local market. It will also display the listing for bankruptcy attorneys Foz & Oz. Even though they are bankruptcy lawyers, Foz & Oz are in Los Angeles, and therefore not competing with the Tampa, Florida practice.
However, Bradley Baker & James will not be included on Smith & Smith’s website, and Smith & Smith will not be included on Bradley Baker & James website. Lisa Johnson & Associates will display listings for all three of the above firms, because none of them compete with her practice.
A Fun Brand for a Serious Industry
Lawyer Plugin breaks out of the stuffy legal mold. On Lawyerplugin.com, users will not find any bookshelves, gavels, or court house columns. Instead, they are offered an outlet for venting with a “Hate Mail” form and noting in their legal disclaimer that the plugin has not displayed any “violent behavior,” but cautions that the “adolescent years are right around the corner.”
Last year, Lawyer Plugin posted teasers on its Facebook and Twitter profiles as beta testing began. The question was asked: “How awesome will Lawyer Plugin be?” The answers —
Coffee will drink Lawyer Plugin to wake up.
You will never need a flu shot. The flu will need a Lawyer Plugin shot.
The earth will no longer rotate around the sun. The sun will be too busy rotating around Lawyer Plugin.
And it was even predicted that Christmas will begin celebrating Lawyer Plugin.
The Lawyer Plugin’s financial backers plan to keep the plugin free. Lawyer Plugin will continue to receive funding indefinitely as add-ons are developed, and a paid, professional version of Lawyer Plugin is also in the works.
Lawyer Plugin is free and out in the court of public opinion. The developers are thirsty for user feedback and additional ideas for features.

What is it like to hack with one of the original hackers? It is certainly much different than what Appears to be the modern rendition of hacking. My experience was not getting really drunk with tons of junk food. It was not working on “beautiful” designs or “authentic” typography. It was not so much about sharing with the world as it was sharing with your peers. It had a very different feel to it than the “hacker culture” Promoted by some of the top technical Silicon Valley companies. It felt more “at home”, less dreamy, and more memorable.
I meet with Bill Gosper every so Often; I had the pleasure of giving him a tour of Facebook when I worked there. (He was so surprised that they had Coke in the glass bottles there, just like the old days.)
He is still very much a hacker, a thinker, a tinkerer, and a wonderer. Every time I meet up with him, he has a new puzzle for me, or someone around him, to solve, whether it’s really clever compass constructions, circle packing, block building, Game of Life automata solving, or even something more tangible like a Buttonhole homemade trap (which was affixed to my shirt for no less than two weeks!). He is also the bearer of interesting items, such as a belt buckle he gave me roomates depicts, in aluminum, a particular circle loose packing.
Gosper succeeding in tricking me with the Buttonhole Trap
When we meet up, all we do is hack. Along with him and one of his talented young students, we all work on something. Anything interesting, really. Last time we met up, we resurrected an old Lisp machine and did some software archeology. I brought over some of the manuals I own, like the great Chinual, and he brought over a dusty old 1U rackmount Alpha machine with OpenGenera installed. After passing a combination of Hurdles, such as that the keyboard was not interfacing with the computer Correctly, we finally got it to boot up. Now, I got to see with my own eyes, a time capsule containing a lot of Bill’s work from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, roomates could only be commanded and Examined through Zmacs dired and Symbolics Common Lisp. Our next goal was to get Symbolics Macsyma fired up on the old machine.
There was trouble with starting it up. License issues were one problem, finding and loading all of the files were compiled another. Running applications on a Lisp machine is very different than what we do today on modern machines, Windows or UNIX. There’s no. Exe file to click, or. App bundle to start up, or even a single. / File to execute. Usually it’s a collection of compiled “fast loading” or “fasl” files that get loaded side-by-side with the operating system. The application, in essence, Becomes a part of the OS.
In hacker tradition, we were Able to bypass the license issues by modifying the binary directly in Lisp. Fortunately, such as Lisp makes things easy disassembly. But how do we load the damn thing? Bill frustratingly muttered, “It’s been at least 20 years since I’ve done it. I just do not remember. “I, being an owner of MacIvory Symbolics Lisp machines, fortunately did remember how to load programs. “Bill, how about LOAD SYSTEM Macsyma?” He typed it into the native Lisp “Listener 2” window (we kept “Listener 1” for debugging), sometimes making a few typing mistakes, but finally succeeding, and then we saw the stream of files loading. We all Shouted in joy that progress was being made. I recall Bill was especially astounded at how fast everything was loading. This was on a fast Alpha machine with gobs of memory. It must have been much slower on the old 3600s they used back in the day.
The Lisp Machine Manual, or Chinual
It was all done after a few minutes, and Macsyma was loaded. To me, this was a sort of holy grail. I personally have Macsyma for Windows (which he uses in a VirtualBox machine on his 17 “MacBook), and I’ve definitely used Maxima. But Macsyma is something I’ve never seen. It was something that seems to have disappeared with history, something I have not been Able to find a copy of in the last decade.
Bill said, “let’s see if it works.” And he typed 1 +1; in, and sure enough, the result was 2. He saw I was bubbling with excitement and asked me if I’d like to try anything. “I’d love to,” and he handed the keyboard over to me and I typed in my canonical computer algebra test: integrate (sqrt (tan (x)), x);, roomates computes the indefinite integral
—- √ ∫ tanθ dθ
Out came the four-term typeset result of logarithms and arctangents, plus a fifth term I’d never seen before. “I’ve never seen any computer algebra system add that fifth term,” I said, “but it does not look incorrect.” The fifth term was a floored expression, Whose Increased value with the period of the function preceding it. “Let’s plot it,” Bill said. He plotted it using Macsyma’s menu interface, and it was what appeared to be an increasing, non-periodic function. I think we determined it was properly handled Because Macsyma branch cuts, with other systems have been known to be unorthodox about. It definitely had a pragmatic feel to it.
Now, Bill wanted to show us some interesting things; however all of Bill’s recent work Macsyma was on his laptop. How do we connect this ancient to a modern Macintosh hardware? We needed to get the machine onto the network, and networking with old machines is not my forte.
Fortunately, Stephen Jones, a friend of Bill’s and seemingly an expert at a rare combination of technical tasks, showed up. He Was able to do things that Neither Bill nor I could do on such an old machine. In only a few moments, he Was able to get Bill’s Mac talking to the Alpha, roomates shared a portion of its file system with Genera. “Will there be enough space on the Alpha for Macsyma my files?” Bill asked Stephen. “Of course, there’s ton’s of space.” We finally got Bill’s recent work transferred onto the machine.
Bill hacking in Macsyma in OpenGenera (Image courtesy of Stephen M. Jones)
We spent the rest of the night hacking on math. He Demonstrated to us what it was like to do a real mathematician’s work at the machine. He debuted some of his recent work. He went though a long chain of reasoning, showing us the line-after-line in Macsyma, number theoretic amazing to do things I’ve never seen before.
I did ask Bill why he does not publish more often. His previous publications have been landmarks: his algorithm for hypergeometric series and his summation algorithm for playing the Game of Life at light speed. He RESPONDED, “when there’s something interesting to publish, it’ll be published.” He seemed to have a sort of disdain for “salami science”, where scientific and mathematical papers present the thinnest possible “slice” or result possible.
Bill is certainly a man that thinks in a different way than most of us do. He is still hacking at mathematics, and still as impressive as before. I’m very fortunate to have met him, and I was absolutely delighted to see that even at 70 years old, his mind is still as sharp as can be, and it’s still being used to do interesting, Gosper-like mathematics.
And you would not believe it. We all were ready to head home at around 9 PM.

Launching a new website is hard. Launching a new brand with that new website can be downright madness.
Just ask Moz. Or iAcquire. Apparently, 2013 is the year of the marketing agency rebrand, and I’m happy to announce we’re part of that list, too: Last week, 352 Media Group became 352.
Those 2½ months spent building our new website and our new brand were the hardest I’ve ever worked in my life. They were also the most rewarding, and despite my incessant cursing, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Why? Because look at the old site:
Whenever you launch a site, everyone just sees the design change, but rarely do you see the behind the scenes – and I’m not just talking about design iterations, although there were probably 13 of those – work that goes into a new website. We’re assuming you’ve already redid your keyword and market research.
Thankfully, the domain didn’t change, but the URL structure did change to directory style. I used Ruth Burr’s template for domain migrations, but made some tweaks.
First, pull every single URL that’s on your root domain. I used both Screaming Frog and our database to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. Drop into Excel and start analyzing what’s going where on your new site.
We work in agile web development, which accounts for short sprints of work (in our case, two weeks at a time) when at the end we’d be able to launch full functionally pieces of our website. Think of it like building a house one room completely at a time.
Because this bad boy needed to be up before mid-July, the planned to launch with the Slim Fast version of our sitemap: A lot of pages weren’t going to exist yet, but they would soon. That meant a lot of pages of our existing site weren’t going to move yet, but they would.
So, in addition to the 301s and 404s, I added a section of what was going to be in Phase II to make our support departments’ lives a little easier. I think it worked.
I admit it: I didn’t remember to install the analytics code on our new site until 24 hours before the site launched. *Facepalm*.
Seriously: Don’t forget it, but also, don’t settle for the basic version. There is so much more that you can see with a little customization, and you need to think about what makes most sense for you. For us, there were three big ones:
If your URLs are changing, so will your sitemaps. Don’t forget to generate a new XML sitemap and resubmit me that GWT to speed up indexation of your new site. We went the multiple XML sitemap approach, one of our main site and one for our blog.
That’s every SEO professional’s nightmare. We’re living that right now. We decided to change our name in January. In May, we took a match to our old site and started over from scratch. Around June, someone finally said “Hey, I wonder where we’ll be ranked with our new brand name.”
Page 3. PAGE 3?!
Logically, it makes sense. 352 is the area code of Gainesville, Florida, our headquarters and our namesake. Sure, we’ve been known simply as 352 (tree-five-two) for 15+ years both by clients and internally, search engines weren’t making that connection.
Why would they? All of our brand links are 352 Media Group, and all of our content was 352 Media Group. We also don’t have nearly the social community that Moz does to blog, link and tweet the name change that would clued Google in sooner.
While our new brand does come with a whole new keyword targeting – Pro tip: Start your new keyword research very early – I couldn’t care less about our exact-match anchor text until we’re showing up No. 1 for “352.” How do you do it? Pull your backlink using your favorite tool, go down and find all of the links with your brand name, and start contacting.
Trust me: Start this process very early if you’re changing name, as in way before you officially launch. Start by reaching out to people who you know can queue up their change to go live on your exact launch date, for example, your author bio for any places you’re a contributor. Don’t forget to make sure your internal team changes any links they have on personal websites.
I’m in the thick of this now, and you never really realize how many brand links you have until you’re staring at a 4-digit long Excel spreadsheet.
Last year, I went skydiving. There’s a moment about 30 seconds into your free fall where you convince yourself that the shoot should have opened by now, and this was going to be it. Then, the chord pulls, you shoot up vertically, and you feel the biggest rush of relief because you are, in fact, going to make it through.
At 3:52 p.m. – see what we did there? – on July 16, 2013, I got that same rush from the launch of our site.
And while the honeymoon of the new brand only lasted about 24 hours until my inbox was flooded with feedback, I needed that kick to keep up the momentum our team had with post-launch iterations.
There will be things you don’t think of. There will be bugs you missed. There will be internal feedback that makes more sense. There will definitelybe user feedback you didn’t even know existed. You need an organized way to keep track of all of this.
My agency used TFS and work through a backlog of items based off client priority and effort to complete the task. This helps us better see the cool things we want to do and where it lies based on priority.
It’s not the most intuitive, and we’re searching for some something a little more user friendly, but it works well enough for now.
If you’re going through a new site launch, I feel you, buddy. It’s long. It’s a pain in the ass. Sometimes, you just want to quit. It’s extremely difficult not to get discouraged, but the end result will be worth it.
Don’t get disappointed if you forget something. There’s a lot to do, and we missed a few “Well, duh” things post launch, but it’s OK. That’s the beauty of constant iterations.

A few days later, I was tested the Intel Next Unit of Computing (NUC) that the new board. Even the box is written in Pre-Production Engineering Sample. So still a production example, not yet in production, may not even be sold widely.
If summarized in a few words, then Intel NUC that I use a small computer with the ability of cayenne pepper for approximately 75% of Server Quad Xeon E31220.
Desktop Computer Intel NUC is a very, very small. The size is approximately 11cm x 11cm x 4cm so it can be easily handheld hands. May be quite right if called as handheld computers hehehe …
The outer display is very compact Intel NUC all. It even comes in a hook to stick in the back of a digital TV screen / monitor. Adapter used is ordinary laptop adapter, with a voltage of 19V with 65W power.
For connection to the outside world, Intel NUC equipped with three USB ports. Two USB 2.0 is being a single USB 3.0 so you can perform high-speed data transfer at all. We can include a USB keyboard and mouse to operate the Intel NUC.
LAN connector used is Gigabit Ethernet. I check using ethtool this device has the ability to auto negotiation 10Mbps / 100Mbps / 1000Mbps full duplex, so very fast.
In Intel NUC body mounted Wifi antenna that can be used for a wireless Internet connection to hotspots.
Gorgeous from Intel NUC is the absence of a VGA connector. That there is a built-in HDMI connector Intel ® High Definition Audio 2 subsystem is configured for 8-channel (7.1) digital audio output via HDMI 1.4a. It means we can use the Digital TV as a monitor with an HDMI connection. For those who still use VGA, can buy a VGA to HDMI adapter and it also goes well.
Intel NUC has two SO-DIMM slots for 1333/1600MHz memory with a capacity of up to 16GB. Intel NUC coincidence that I am trying to use 8GB of memory.
Hard drive is a hard disk Intel NUC future generations, using a Solid State Drive (SSD) 32GB, so instead of mechanical hard disk is installed using an mSATA connector.

The world’s largest search engine company, Google will soon be officially shut down one of his services. The services that will be closed is Google Latitude which is a location sharing application.
Closure is made after a company based in Mountain View did a massive change on Google Maps. In addition, this application also has a very low popularity. Google Latitude consumption levels far below other applications such as Foursquare or Facebook. Not only that, Latitude also less popular than the location-sharing service owned by Google.
Google Latitude itself is a location sharing application that is integrated with Google Maps. This feature allows for automatic location tracking, check in at a place it can also be set automatically or manually.
In the latest update Google Maps on Android, this feature is not found anymore. Selian it, Google also removed the existence of Google Latitude app available on iOS and has officially retire the Latitude API. So third-party applications that use these APIs will not work, unless using a sharing site owned by Google.
